X-Ray Evidence
Dixie's Initial X-Ray:

Diagnosis: Severe Hip DysplasiaPrognosis:
Poor. Loose, ill-formed joints will further deteriorate with age, developing sever
arthritis with a decrease in mobility and severe increase in pain. |
- Short femoral neck.
- Very small femoral head (ball).
- Poorly formed head, not smooth and round.
- Very shallow sockets. Poorly formed, do not form a good fit with head.
- Wide space between ball and socket (indicates loose joint).
- Very poor fit between ball and socket.
- Balls are riding on outer rim of the poorly formed socket.
|
Dixie's X-Ray After 1 Year on AMAIZE:

Diagnosis: Left hip Dysplastic. Right hip improved (functionally).
Prognosis: Fair
Left Hip: The left hip has grown, but shows little
improvement. But on the other hand, the left hip does not show any degeneration -
a positive sign. |
Right Hip:
- Improved skeletal development of the right hip joint.
- The ball and socket of the right hip now fit together much better.
- The socket is now deeper, better formed.
- The ball (head) of the right femur has enlarged and is now smooth and round.
- The joint now fits together much tighter and appears to be mechanically much improved.
- The suspected arthritic degeneration of the joint did not occur.

Dixie's X-Ray Two Years After Initial X-Ray
- the first year on AMAIZE, then switched to AMAIZE
AHD the second year:

Diagnosis: Functional hips, although Dysplastic.
Prognosis: Good.
Comments: Clinically, the dog exhibits no signs of pain
and runs and jumps normally. The owner says the dog can now jump in and out of the back of
pickup truck with ease. |
Description: The x-ray shows a dog with abnormally
developed hip joints that appear to be functional. Both hip joints exhibit a reasonably
tight joint that is a ball and socket that fit together well and show minimal arthritic
changes. Although the hips are abnormally developed (technically Dysplastic), they appear
to be mechanically sound and should cause the dog little pain and should not impair the
dog's mobility. |
