The original AMAIZE formula was designed as a nutritional supplement for high performance dogs under stress. Numerous anecdotal reports of favorable responses of dogs with hip dysplasia prompted us to examine the reasons for such responses. AMAIZE in many cases of hip dysplasia provided dramatic improvement in mobility and in the quality of the dog’s life, prompting the owner to discontinue pain and anti-inflammatory therapy. This improvement may have come about through several mechanisms, either individually or collectively depending on the individual dog.

One factor that may have accounted for the improvement is oxygen, free radical scavenging. In a degenerative joint disease like hip dysplasia, oxygen, free radicals accumulate in the joint and further damage the articular cartilage and the surrounding tissue resulting in irreversible joint damage. The balanced levels of antioxidant vitamins and minerals in AMAIZE may have provided the essential nutrients necessary for the body to produce the natural enzymes necessary to scavenge these harmful free radicals, preventing further damage to the joint, and leading to the reported improvement

Discontinuing pain and anti-inflammatory therapy may have been another contributing factor in the reported improvements. When anti-inflammatory drugs like steroids and aspirin are given to reduce the inflammation and the pain of arthritis they improve the animals mobility, they may also allow the pain free animal to further injure the joint through physical abuse.

The NSAID’s drugs (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) have also been reported to cause damage to chondrocytes, the cells that regenerate cartilage, further insulting the disease process, which may account for the reported poor long term responses to these drugs.

The AMAIZE formula also contains omega 3 fatty acids that have been shown in humans to be of benefit in patients suffering arthritis, although the exact mechanism for the response is not clear.

A proprietary non viable Lactobacillus fermentation product dehydrated, in a controlled release base, is also contained in the AMAIZE formula. This ingredient has been shown to stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestinal track, resulting in the better utilization of food, and the improved production of beneficial nutrients by intestinal bacteria, which may also have been a contributing factor in the positive response.

Recent research has indicated certain substances found in cartilage, chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine, are also key nutrients necessary for the body to produce and maintain healthy joints. We have therefore added two natural nutritional ingredients derived from cartilage to the original AMAIZEformulation to assure that the known essential nutrients for building and maintaining healthy joints are in the new formulation. We are calling the new formulation AMAIZE AHD.

Complex multifaceted problems do not yield themselves easily to scientific investigation. Because of the very complex nature of arthritic disease, and the complex interaction of nutrients it may be many decades before there is conclusive scientific evidence defining the roll of diet in the progression of arthritic disease. In the interim, we believe if you choose to try our AMAIZE AHD nutritional supplement, that you will find that AMAIZE AHD will improve your dog’s quality of life. And if it doesn’t, we will give you your money back, no questions asked. Isn’t it worth a try?
